05 IST-Sponsored
Summer School

Compelling
applications for quantum control have been noted and have motivated
seminal studies in such wide-ranging fields as chemistry, metrology,
optical networking and quantum computing.
Bringing together control theorists, experimentalists, and theoretical physicists is the aim of QCSS 05, an IST-sponsored summer school that will be held at Caltech from August 8 - 14, 2005. Applications are being accepted from graduate students, post-docs, and senior researchers; deadline for application is March 15.
We
have three primary goals for this 2005 summer school. This first
is to foster an understanding among control theorists of applications-driven
needs for methods to design control schemes and of the practical
constraints on their implementation.The
second is to build an appreciation among experimentalists and
theoretical physicists for the range and utility of analysis/design
methods from control theory. The third is to begin developing
unifying conceptual and mathematical languages for quantum control.
Given
the vertically integrated nature of this agenda, we are planning
an event that will be of interest both to students and senior
researchers. Tutorial lectures will be integrated with research
presentations, and enrollment is open to interested senior researchers
who would come only to listen and discuss without presenting.
